I haven't posted a beauty review for quite some time, but this Body Shop Ginger Sparkle body butter review will be a short one. This body butter was released late 2012, as a part of the limited edition range from The Body Shop. It was a part of their festive collection for the holiday season.

When I first opened the tub, I was overwhelmed by the scent and it slightly irritated my sinuses. My first thought was that it's terrible. It did not smell like ginger biscuits, but very strong and spicy ginger beer. Now I love ginger beer, but the smell was intense. Despite the intense smell I decided to use some on my arms.Once the Ginger Sparkle scent reacted with my skin, it changed. The scent no longer irritated my sinuses and although the smell remained strong, it became subtle. Unlike other body butters or creams, this scent lasts for hours.
Ginger Sparkle is thick, smooth and creamy. It is moisturising without being oily. It's easy to rub into my skin and a little goes a long way. Although it has sparkle in its name, there is no shimmer or glitter in the butter. I'm not sure about the price, because I was gifted this by the lovely ladies of Beauty Bulletin.

Although it is from TBS Christmas range, it is very apparent that it is catered for their customers in the Northern Hemisphere. This is not a summer scent, so it's not very appropriate for the festive season in South Africa. I'll be saving it for winter. I also don't recommend wearing it with perfume or body spray, unless the notes compliment the ginger scent.

I only wear my body shop butter at night because it is very rich and creamy. My skin feels amazing in the morning. I bought the cranberry one in the christmas range. The ginger scent is very strong. I love the little ginger bread man though;)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! Normally I just use body cream. Thanks for the tip.
DeleteHi Odette. The smell was too overpowering for me. I agree that they don't cater for a summer Christmas range. I did buy me some goodies from the vanilla bliss range and I loved it.
ReplyDeleteThere are far too many international companies that do not cater for a hot Christmas in the southern hemisphere, which is most probably why this body butter is just a limited edition.
DeleteLove the review. I also wasn't that thrilled with the scent of it and put it back on the shelf.
ReplyDeleteI also wasn't that thrilled with the scent. But I didn't give it a chance like you did. I put it back on the shelf immediately. Love the review!
ReplyDeleteAt first I wasn't keen to try it, but I thought I may as well just try.
DeleteFor me those seem tempting.. I love ginger cookies, but I'm allergic to wheat. Could try these ;3

I love ginger cookies as well, but this smells more like ginger than cookies. You should definitely try it though, as a substitute.
